Writing a Song from Tweets – This Song Saved My Life by Simple Plan

You don’t have to be a fan of Simple Plan or even like this song to appreciate the unique quality behind the writing – user generated lyrics!

This may not be the fist time a band or songwriter has done something similar, but is, to my knowledge, the first time a band has written an entire song based on lyrics by their fans.

The band sent out a tweet asking their fans to tweet back about how their music makes them feel – they received 1000’s of responses. The band then decided to use these tweets to write the song.

Once the song was written they asked their fans to submit a name for it on twitter. The most popular submission was “This Song Saved My LIfe”.

When Simple Plan started planning the video shoot they invited fans from all over the world to sing parts of the chorus at the end of the song – they actually sang their own on tweets!

This is the kind of stuff, as a community manager, I love to see! What an incredible way to leverage your community, give them a voice, and most importantly give back.

What makes this really cool is that the fans had an opportunity to take part in the creative process from beginning to end.

Here’s the video, enjoy!
