Fun Friday Post – Our Favourite Childhood TV Show Openers!

Last weekend I was walking down memory lane with my kids on YouTube playing for them some of my favourite TV show openers from when I was a kid. Maybe I’m getting old, and with my birthday around the corner nostalgia is kicking in, but man I miss running home from school to see G.I. Joe, He-Man, TMNT, Thundercats, etc.

What I found interesting is how well these 80’s cartoons have stood the test of time, my kids were eating these videos up. Especially my older son, almost 5, who couldn’t get enough of He-Man and surprisingly Mask. There was just something special about 80’s cartoons with it’s cheesy pop rock riffs, fantastic characters, and plots that made any little boy or girl feel like they could save the world from evil!

I could go through the long  list, but better yet here are our favourite childhood TV Show Openers.

The Poet – He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983-1985)

I was really torn between a handful of my faves, but in the end I had to go with He-Man, after all he is the Master of the Universe and rides a mighty battle cat!

Beth – Today’s Special (1981-1987)

Not a cartoon, but this was up there for me as well, along with Fraggle Rock, great pick Beth!

Leila – Transformers (1984-1987)

Damn straight, they’re “Robots in disguise”!

Moniba – Pokemon (1997-Current)

Well, she’s too young for the 80’s… but still a great choice!

Ziad – Télé Pirate (1991-1996)

Like Moniba, not young enough for the 80’s, but a great French Canadian pick! It’s up there with Le petit prince.

…and for all the shows we didn’t list, here’s a great mash-up, enjoy!

What’s your favourite childhood TV Show Opener?
